ABOUT CHEAP DE-ICERS
27% Dead Weight! Over 1/4 of the purchase price wasted!
If you place a high value on your grass and shrubs ... your ornamental grillework ... your expensive carpeting (and who doesn't), then you can't afford a cheap de-icer.
We bought a 100 lb. drum of one of the cheap chemical products on the market, analyzed it in the laboratory, and this is what we found out: 27% of the contents in this drum were inerts or fillers. This material had absolutely no ice or snow thawing capacity. It was put in the container simply to add bulk and weight. The inerts had been cleverly added. Color-wise and shape-wise, the average buyer would never notice any difference between this product and PROPELLANT 49. But when he got around to using this cheap de-icer, then he'd see as much difference as day from night. The 27% inerts won't melt. This dead weight will just lay on the sidewalk to be tracked inside. This mess is hard to clean up and grinds into tile and carpeting where it can do irreparable damage. Furthermore, by diluting the formula, the melting action of this competitive de-icer has been reduced by at least 1/4.
CONTROLLED MELTING ACTION!
CMA - Controlled Melting Action. This is an important plus with PROPELLANT 49 which isn't offered by ordinary inert loaded de-icers. Working in much the same way as time-release pain killers, there is a systematic melting process with PROPELLANT 49 which will continue for as long as 36 hours after application. This means important protection during the ZERO HOURS (between sundown and sunup) when the greatest danger from slippery steps and walks occurs.
With ordinary de-icers applied in the afternoon, the melting action is over in an hour or two. Then, when the sun goes down, the melted ice will re-freeze, creating its greatest hazard with dusk and evening darkness. Statistics show most falls and serious accidents on ice occur at this time, which is the time PROPELLANT 49 does its most effective work.
WON'T DAMAGE CONCRETE WALKS AND DRIVEWAYS
A letter written by a Regional Office of the Portland Cement Association issues a warning on cheap de-icers:
"We are confronted with the energetic promotion and sale of de-icing agents containing ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate salts. These chemicals are extremely corrosive. They will attack any concrete, including air-entrained concrete. They should not be used as de-icing agents under any circumstances ... A 1/2 to 1 percent solution of this salt will attack concrete. Recent tests on one such de-icer showed that it was 99 percent ammonium sulfate ..."
PROPELLANT 49 does not contain a single drop of ammonium nitrate or ammonium sulfate, and is the one chemical de-icer that has been certified completely safe for their use by the American Research and Testing Laboratories.
