On gravel roofs, the treatment is much the same as built-up paper ones, with the addition that loose gravel must first be removed. The gravel serves no purpose but to keep the tar under it from running under extreme heat. It simply adds unnecessary weight on the roof, as much as 400-500lbs per 100 sq. ft. reducing its life. With the PACE system, all loose gravel and accumulated dirt is removed in preparation for the application of materials. At this time, cracks and points of water entry are revealed and treated with Pace's SUPER ROOF CEMENT - a heavy-bodied, plasticized asphalt based fiber glass reinforced patching material. Regraveling traffic lanes and making paths or walkways where foot traffic is expected on the roof is optional. Putting down mineral rolled roofing or roofing felt to walk on is another alternative.
